The Unseen Phenomenon Around Us: The “Real and the Void” at the Weiwuying Performing Arts Center

August 1, 2025

Since its completion, the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) has received widespread acclaim and attention. As part of the design team, Archasia Design Group was honored to contribute to Taiwan's professional journal Architect Magazine, sharing reflections on how the spatial design of the Weiwuying project invites us to reconsider the often overlooked phenomena and details in our built environment—and how architecture can create new connections between the “real” and the “void.”

Many architectural and design challenges are not resolved through striking forms or technical spectacle, but through a deep observation of daily life and an understanding of local memory.

The notion of “seeing but not perceiving” refers to the latent design language and spatial potential within everyday surroundings—elements that only emerge through attentive observation and contextual sensitivity.

Rather than showcasing a form-driven architecture, the Weiwuying project represents a process of thinking and responding that begins with the native landscape and local environment.
