Completed in 2009, Belle Plaza set multiple precedents in Qingdao's commercial architecture. Its east side faces the Olympic Sailing Center harbor basin, the west echoes the “May Wind” sculpture, and the north links to Hisense Plaza—creating a prime commercial triangle.
Design Concept
The architectural theme centers on “ocean elements.”
Special Design Elements
Wave-like glass curtain walls maximize natural light, achieving over 60% daylighting and greatly reducing energy use.
Inside, the space feels immersed in sun and sea breeze, while the curved façade mitigates harsh winter winds.
A bold “vertical commercial street” concept shapes the spatial layout.
A sunken courtyard solves underground lighting challenges and creates a striking “canyon effect,” guiding vertical movement naturally.
The sloped rooftop platform aligns precisely with the Olympic Sailing Center's lighthouse, offering a unique view corridor.
