The Top City Taichung Far Eastern Department Store, completed in December 2011, stands as a testament to innovative retail architecture and urban integration. This 14-story building, with an additional seven underground levels, reaches a height of 69.9 meters and encompasses a total floor area of 178,895 square meters.

Design Concept

It is located on Taiwan Boulevard in Taichung's 7th Redevelopment Zone. It opened in December 2011 and was one of Taiwan's largest department stores at the time.

The exterior is designed with smooth curves and a sail-inspired form.

The main exterior wall uses a layered glass system, creating a modern interplay of light and shadow.

From ground level upward, the gently curved form expresses the bold and elegant concept of a sail setting off.

Special Design Elements

A double-skin wall system is applied: the inner layer consists of sandwich metal panels, while the outer layer is ultra-clear glass with white baked enamel on the back, supported by 90 cm brackets.

LED lights installed between the two layers bring a vibrant and dynamic nighttime appearance.

Commercially, floors 1 to 3 house luxury boutiques to create a premium mall atmosphere. Floors 4 and above serve as general department store areas, with the top floor dedicated to dining.
