Kaohsiung Xiaogang Airport has become one of Taiwan's key international airports, functioning as the primary air transportation hub for southern Taiwan.
For a medium-sized airport with 12 gates, the finger type layout is considered the most economical and practical. Each finger accommodates six aircraft stands, with three gates on each side.

Kaohsiung, as an industrial city with a thriving shipbuilding industry, adopts an industrial design language featuring exposed steel structures and incorporates aircraft forms into the terminal's architecture.
The waiting lounge features an elliptical shape mimicking an aircraft fuselage; circular windows on the façade at the restroom area further emphasize this aircraft imagery.
The arrival level's canopy for passenger drop-off is shaped like a wing, supported by streamlined cantilever beams, giving the impression of readying for flight.
