The redesign of Songshan Station represents a transformative approach to urban infrastructure, breathing new life into one of Taipei's key railway hubs. Situated between the vibrant Raohe Street Night Market to the north and the bustling Wufenpu shopping district to the south, the station had long been a physical barrier, dividing these two dynamic areas.
Taiwan Railways partnered with Ruentex Group under a BOT project to redevelop the former Songshan Station site. The new mixed-use complex integrates a railway station, office spaces, a hotel, and a shopping mall. It reconnects the north-south urban axis and boosts development in the eastern district, making it a key milestone in Songshan's transformation.
With the old structure removed, the station's historical identity disappeared. Since train stations are vital city landmarks, the new above-ground building—after rail undergrounding—resembles nearby commercial towers.
To preserve its station function visually, a circular canopy was added at the entrance.
The white membrane roof provides shelter, and large glass walls enclose a semi-outdoor plaza.
A prominent “Songshan Station” sign improves visibility and identity. The plaza invites people to gather, rest, orattend events, offering a public space that gives back to the city.
An additional office tower was built across Zhongpo North Road and linked via a second-floor skybridge.
Because of an underground drainage channel preventing column installation, the bridge is suspended between the two buildings, spanning 70 meters.
Its sleek structure and lighting design make it a distinctive landmark on the station’s east side, especially at night.
