Russia was awarded the hosting rights for the 2014 Winter Olympics, selecting the southern coastal city of Sochi as the host location. Located south of Moscow along the Black Sea, Sochi is a well-known resort destination in Russia.

Inspired by the poetic imagery of "pearls dropping onto a jade plate," the master plan distributes six dome-shaped venues—resembling miniature stadiums—throughout the site. This design not only echoes Russia’s tradition of intricately decorated imperial eggs, but also integrates long-term flexibility: each venue is pre-planned to be repurposed into hotels or shopping centers after the Winter Olympics.

The venue planning for this Winter Olympics covered several key facilities, including:

an Olympic Stadium with a capacity of 40,000 for the opening and closing ceremonies; a 3,000-seat curling arena; a 12,000-seat main ice hockey arena; a secondary ice hockey arena with 7,000 seats; an 8,000-seat speed skating venue; an 8,000-seat short track speed skating venue; and a 12,000-seat figure skating venue.

In addition, the surrounding area included supporting facilities such as a media center, retail spaces, athlete villages, and hotels to fully accommodate the needs of the Games.

After the Winter Olympics concluded, the entire park was planned to be integrated with surrounding land resources, and further transformed into a new urban development zone combining sports, tourism, residential, and commercial functions, shaping a new urban identity for the future of Sochi.
