The 2014 Winter Olympics, hosted by Russia, selected the southern coastal city of Sochi as the venue. Situated south of Moscow along the Black Sea, Sochi is a renowned Russian resort destination known for its beautiful scenery and climate conditions similar to Taiwan’s. The nearby Caucasus Mountains, just a 50-minute drive from the city center, provide reliable winter snowfall, making it an ideal location for snow sports competitions.

The main design concept draws inspiration from the idea of “large pearls and small pearls falling onto a jade plate,” distributing six dome-like arenas throughout the park. This layout pays homage to Russia’s traditional royal-painted eggs, while the venues are designed with future adaptability in mind—planned for post-Olympics conversion into large hotels and shopping centers.

Key venues planned for the Games include:
• A 40,000-seat Olympic Stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies
• A 3,000-seat curling arena
• A 12,000-seat main ice hockey arena
• A 7,000-seat secondary ice hockey arena
• An 8,000-seat speed skating arena
• An 8,000-seat short track speed skating arena
• A 12,000-seat figure skating arena

Supporting facilities such as a media center, retail spaces, an athletes’ village, and hotels were also incorporated to comprehensively meet event requirements.
After the Olympics, the entire park is planned to be integrated with surrounding land resources to transform into a multifunctional urban development area combining sports, tourism, residential, and commercial uses—shaping Sochi’s new urban identity for the future.
